William Hawrelak Park (originally Mayfair Park) is a 68 hectare park in the river valley featuring a 5 hectare lake and open meadows. The park hosts several major festivals and events throughout the year and is a fantastic location for all Edmontonians and visitors to explore.

Hawrelak Lake Interactive Ice Tool

Culina on the Lake is open year round in the heart of Edmonton's River Valley inside the Pavilion Building at Hawrelak Park.

Serving homemade soups, bison burgers, beef chili, poutine and baked goods along with local craft beer, wine, hot chocolate, apple cider and locally roasted ‘Kaffa Coffee’ in a casual atmosphere with a stunning lakefront view. Warm up inside or around our gas fire pit on the patio.

Community League Plaza

To celebrate their 100 year anniversary in 2021, the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL), in partnership with the City of Edmonton have created a new public amenity within Hawrelak Park. Located on the southeast side of the lake, the Community League Plaza is an all-season destination featuring a gas fireplace, seating, lake and creek viewing areas, artwork, displays, and information about how Edmonton and the Community League movement have grown together through time

Things to know:
  • The plaza is available for spontaneous use only at this time. No public formal bookings.
  • The plaza is open during park hours, 5am-11pm
  • The fireplace and heaters are visitor operated and can be turned on by pressing the buttons located behind the timeline wall. These function during park hours and low temperatures.
  • The lights in the plaza will turn on when dark and turn off in response to daylight levels. They also turn off completely when the park closes daily at 11pm.
  • There is a wood burning stove

Picnic Sites

Starting May 28, 2021 until October 11, 2021, responsible alcohol consumption will be permitted at 47 picnic sites across 7 River Valley parks. For a list of sites where consumption is permitted visit edmonton.ca/alcoholinparks.

The Government of Alberta has released a schedule for the reopening of recreation activities, which includes limited outdoor gatherings. At this time, picnic site reservation requests will only be accepted for groups of 20 people or fewer.

Hawrelak Park has 4 picnic sites available for reservation during the summer. Site #2 is also available during the winter. The park has 37 picnic tables available for drop-in (no fee) use. Additionally, reservation site tables that aren't reserved in advance may be claimed on a first-come, first-served basis.
